AN INDEPENDENT councillor has joined the Welsh Conservative Group on Llanelli Town Council, at the same time supporting the group’s commitment for the council to go net carbon zero ‘at the earliest possible time.’
Cllr Sara Griffiths, who was elected to represent the Lliedi ward at the last local elections in May 2017 as a Labour councillor, said the Conservative Group are “ambitious about making Llanelli a better place to live, work and raise a family.”
“It’s so important that we start switching to cleaner, renewable forms of energy, improving our air quality locally, and securing a cleaner, greener future for our children and young people in Llanelli.
“I’m proud to second the Conservative Group’s motion on this important issue and I’m proud to have joined the Conservative Party in Llanelli.”
Cllr Siôn Davies, leader of the Conservative Group on Llanelli Town Council, said:
“I am delighted to welcome Sara to the team. Her commitment to issues of social justice is without question, and it means a great deal that Sara sees the Conservative Party as the party with the right ideas.
“We welcome her with open arms into the Conservative Party, and I know she’ll make an excellent Conservative councillor."
Cllr Sara Griffiths will remain a member of the Town Council’s ruling group, which is made up of Independent, Conservative and Plaid Cymru councillors. Labour is in opposition.
