Hospitality is in crisis in west Wales and needs urgent action from the Welsh Government argues Havard Hughes, Carmarthen East & Dinefwr Senedd candidate.
The Welsh Government should immediately extend business rate relief to Carmarthenshire businesses in line with the rest of the UK.
Havard Hughes along with fellow Senedd Candidate Amanda Jenner have already started a campaign to get a fair deal for local hospitality businesses across West Wales who have been particularly hard hit by the Government’s approach to the pandemic.
Hughes Commented:
“The Welsh Labour Government could make a huge difference to many struggling businesses by extending business rate relief. It has been done elsewhere in the UK and it is high time the Welsh Government followed suit.
The Welsh Government needs to go the extra mile to assist hospitality businesses. Local government support has been sporadic at best and first-come-first-served funding has left many businesses struggling.
West Wales might be a long way from Cardiff but our economy matters too and local businesses needed to be treated with the respect they deserve. A number of Carmarthenshire hospitality business have complained to me about heavy handed enforcement of Covid regulations.
It only fair that given the burden placed on business by the pandemic the Welsh Government goes the extra mile to help them stay in business by extending rate relief.”
